| The W2LB text message service is the brainchild of Bethel Baptist Church
in Cardiff. They piloted the service last year and found that the text
messages were really popular as a source of inspiration as the day began.
Simeon Baker, Pastor of Bethel, said: "The Bible is full of practical advice for daily life, but people are often too busy to read it every day. W2LB recognises that most of us now have a mobile phone, so we send out a quote as a text message three times a week". "It is such a popular service that we have opened it up to enable anyone in the UK with a mobile phone to receive W2LB". Joining is simple. All you need to do is send the following text message to 88600: TEXT4 W2LB ON." Each text costs 25p of which the phone operators and technology suppliers take 21p. All the money that comes back to Bethel (4p per call) is donated to Christian charities. The first of these will be Compassion UK, which helps free children from poverty in developing countries. W2LB is powered by thinkSMS.co.uk. Managing Director Darren Rose says: "We are delighted to be working with Bethel on this project. It is another perfect example of how SMS texting is no longer the monopoly of teenagers". To join the W2LB service, Vodafone, O2 and Orange customers need to send the following text message to 88600: TEXT4 W2LB ON. They will then automatically receive a W2LB message every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning without having to do anything else. To cancel their subscription, they need to send the following text message to 88600: TEXT4 W2LB OFF. T-Mobile customers can obtain the service by sending the following text every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to 88600: TEXT4 W2LB. |
